Are you the best stone skipper in the state that you live in? Join the 2026 State Stone Skip Contest! Here is how to get your name on the leaderboard:
Take an unedited video of yourself skipping a natural stone. The video must include showing a close-up view of the stone in your hand before launching the stone, as well as you tossing the stone. The video must be clear enough to reasonably judge the number of skips in slow motion (within 15 skips). Many people use drones with cameras to capture stone skips. Otherwise, having an assistant standing on an elevated platform, using a video camera with high frame rate capabilities will be beneficial. Judging the amount of stone skips accurately without the use of multiple camera angles is difficult, but for the sake of simplicity, only one video per skip can be used. You can enter the contest multiple times during the year, but each time you will have to submit another video of each toss. In addition to the video, you must have an assistant also count the number of skips to the best of their ability. The average number of skips counted on the video and what your assistant counts is what will be used in the contest. This is all done on the honor system, so try your hardest to make a clear video and accurate visual counts. The video must be less than 15 seconds long, taken in 2026 and be taken within the State that you live in.
Upload the video to your Instagram, and tag the Rock of Ages Instagram page, using #2026StateStoneSkip in your feed. Either the caption or the video must include your first and last name, as well as the State that you live in (city/town are optional). If you don't have Instagram, somebody else that you know with Instagram can enter your video and information for the contest as well.
Check the leaderboard on this page frequently and keep submitting more videos! We will post the top three results for each state.
